Renewed gold certification in occupational health management for Lohmann-koester

AOK Bayern (a regional health insurance fund) has awarded Lohmann-koester GmbH & Co. KG “gold status” for its occupational health management (BGM) for the second time in a row. The Altendorf-based company, which is strongly committed to the health of its employees, received the recertification once again for its successful efforts.

Professional activities, such as shift work, often present the workforce with particular physical challenges. But working at a computer screen also has its pitfalls. “In order to keep foreseeable stress for employees in all departments as low as possible, Lohmann-koester continuously operates a company health management system tailored to the company,” says Tobias Haase, Director of the AOK in Bamberg.

As part of the recertification process, an audit is conducted to identify strengths and areas for improvement, as well as the status of the occupational health management system in accordance with a nationwide quality standard. A total of seven areas are examined: integration of occupational health and social management into company policy, systematic implementation of the occupational health management system, promotion of health and health potential, employee participation, human resources management, reporting, and occupational safety/health and safety.

“Recertification is important to us to ensure that the processes and services of our occupational health management system meet the highest standards,” confirms Stefan Hofmann, Managing Director of Lohmann-koester. The health insurance fund provides expert advice and helps to ensure that health management in the company is always in line with the latest requirements by means of an annual report.

“Lohmann-koester is a great example of how it's possible to keep a continuous improvement process going over several years,” says Tobias Haase. In 2024, the company celebrated its 10th anniversary of workplace health management. Back in 2014, people in charge got started with workplace health promotion for staff in the “Health Working Group.” “In constant dialogue with the BGM experts at the AOK headquarters in Bamberg, we discuss issues such as heat and sun protection, the correct use of the lifting aids provided, and healthy and sustainable nutrition,” explains Stefan Hofmann. These and other topics are already a focus during training, for example in workshops with tips for professional practice.
